how to calculate payload

Calculating payload is as simple as subtracting the vehicle's curb weight from its Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM). In plain English, payload = GVM - curb weight. Your payload is the maximum weight of passengers, cargo, and accessories your vehicle can carry without breaking a sweat—or the law.

For example, if your ute has a GVM of 3,000 kg and a curb weight of 2,200 kg, your payload is a modest 800 kg. Always consult your vehicle’s plate or manual for exact figures, because guessing payload might get you a fine or a bent suspension.
