In WA, changing number plates is less epic than your mate’s burnout, but it does go through the Department of Transport.
Order new or custom plates online via Plates WA or visit a Driver and Vehicle Service centre, then bring proper ID and your vehicle licence details to pay the fees. When the new plates are issued, you’ll usually surrender the old set (unless you’ve arranged a retention or transfer). If you’re moving plates between vehicles or owners, transfer the right to display before fitting them, then bolt on the new set and tell your insurer. Easy enough that even your cousin with the zip-tie toolkit can manage—properly.
