Before you hand over a single shiny dollar, do two checks: the free Service NSW rego check (confirms registration, CTP and expiry) and a PPSR search (about $2) using the VIN to reveal finance owing, written-off, and stolen status.
Old “REVS” checks are gone—PPSR is the national truth serum, and you want the certificate dated the day you buy. Match the VIN/engine numbers on the car to the rego papers like a hawk with reading glasses.
Then ask for logbooks and receipts, and book a pre-purchase inspection if your mechanical knowledge tops out at “that’s the noisy bit.”
If you’re shopping on Tradingpost, get the VIN from the seller early so you can run the checks before you fall in love with the paint.
