how to check if odometer was rolled back Page 9

Suspect someone’s wound back the clock? Cross-check the dash reading against the logbook, service invoices and state rego/inspection records—sudden drops or gaps are your smoking gun.

Order a PPSR to rule out encumbrance, write-off or theft, then add a full history report that collates recorded odometer readings from past sales, services and roadworthy checks.

Wear should match the tale: a “70,000 km” car with cratered pedals, a glazed steering wheel and a stone-chipped nose is telling porkies.

Have a mechanic scan the ECU/ABS/BCM for stored mileage and check for tamper marks or a suspiciously fresh instrument cluster.

If the seller gets cagey, walk away—clocking is illegal in Australia, and your wallet deserves better than creative fiction.
