Right, jumper leads in Australia: treat it like defusing a bomb, but with more dignity and fewer explosions.
Park nose-to-nose, engines off, handbrakes on; red lead to the dead battery’s +, red lead’s other end to the donor battery’s +, black to the donor’s −, and the last black clamp to bare metal on the dead car (not its battery).
Start the donor, let it idle a minute, then try the stricken car; once it fires, remove the leads in reverse: black off the body, black off donor, red off donor, red off the revived battery.
Most Aussie cars are 12V; if it’s a hybrid/EV or start‑stop system, check the manual and use the designated jump points—no cowboy tricks.
Avoid sparks, jewellery and cigarettes hovering over batteries unless you fancy an eyebrow reset; then drive 20–30 minutes to recharge properly.
