Staring at a PPSR report like it’s hieroglyphics? Here’s the checklist: look for Encumbrance/Security Interest—if it says “Yes”, there’s finance owing and the debt can follow the car. Check Stolen Status and Written-off Status (from the national WOVR); anything other than “No record” deserves a very deep breath and probably a different car. Make sure the VIN/Chassis, make, model, and build/compliance years on the report exactly match the vehicle; mismatches are a red flag the size of Uluru. Confirm the Search Date/Time is recent and keep the PPSR reference number—this certificate proves what the register said at that moment. Remember, PPSR doesn’t judge condition; still get a mechanical inspection and a state rego check before handing over your hard-earned. Do all that and you’ve just dodged the sort of surprise that ruins long weekends.
