Bringing the car in was the adventure; registering it here is the paperwork marathon at the finish line. First, ensure you have federal import approval and biosecurity clearance, because Customs doesn’t do “she’ll be right.” Then get the vehicle complied to Australian Design Rules by an approved workshop and obtain evidence of compliance (think approval/certificate rather than a souvenir badge). Next, sort a roadworthy/safety inspection if your state requires it, gather proof of ownership and identity, and arrange Compulsory Third Party insurance where applicable. With that stack of documents, front up to your state/territory road authority (VicRoads, TMR QLD, Service NSW, DIT SA, DOT WA, etc.), pay stamp duty and rego fees, and collect plates. Processes differ slightly by state, but the order—approve, comply, inspect, insure, register—will keep you out of trouble.
