how to sell an unlicensed car Page 5

First, clarify the term: in Australia an “unlicensed” car usually means unregistered—you can sell it, you just can’t drive it on public roads. Advertise it clearly as unregistered, price accordingly, and arrange inspections on private property; for any test drive, the buyer needs a tow, trailer, or an Unregistered Vehicle Permit. Have your paperwork ready: proof of ownership, a properly written receipt with VIN/engine number, and the buyer’s details. Each state has its own rules, so check your authority (Service NSW, VicRoads, TMR QLD, etc.) for transfer/notice-of-disposal steps and whether a roadworthy/safety certificate is needed for the transaction. Remove plates if applicable, cancel or pause any insurance, and be crystal about “as-is, no rego, no RWC” to avoid post-sale argy‑bargy. Meet safely, take secure payment (no creative cheques, thanks), and keep copies of everything; then enjoy the sudden extra space in your driveway.
