Selling an unregistered car in Queensland is perfectly legal—just keep it off public roads unless it’s on a trailer or has an Unregistered Vehicle Permit.
You don’t need a safety certificate to sell it unregistered, but the buyer will need one (plus CTP) to register it later.
Give the buyer a proper receipt with VIN/engine number, odometer, price, date, and both parties’ details, and keep a copy like it’s your favourite mug.
Remove any plates still hanging on and surrender them to TMR if required; there’s no “transfer” because there’s no rego to transfer.
If it must move under its own power, get a UVP or don’t drive it—simple as that.
Clean it, disclose faults, and encourage a PPSR check so no one gets a surprise finance fairy turning up.
