In Queensland, personalised plates are treated like your pet budgie—you own them, not the car. They’re managed by PPQ, and you can transfer ownership to someone else separately from the vehicle.
Both parties provide ID and consent, lodge the transfer (online or via the required form) with PPQ, and pay the transfer fee. If fitting the plates to a vehicle, update the registration with TMR and physically swap the plates; if removing them, organise standard plates for the car.
Make sure any tolls, fines, and rego details are squared away before the handover. Processes and fees can change, so check the current requirements before fronting a counter—saves awkward queue-time banter.
