Bought a car in Queensland? Transfer the rego with TMR within 14 days or you’ll cop a late fee that stings more than a magpie in spring. Use the online transfer (QLD-to-QLD light vehicles) or visit a TMR customer service centre, and have the VIN/plate, odometer, sale price, and both parties’ licence details ready.
The seller should provide a current Queensland Safety Certificate; the buyer pays the transfer fee and motor vehicle duty based on the purchase price or market value. CTP rides along with the registration, but you can choose a different insurer at renewal, and don’t forget to update your address if you’ve just moved house. Bringing one in from interstate? You’ll be doing a new QLD registration with an identity/roadworthy inspection and new plates, and cancelling the old state’s rego for any refund.
