In 2022, Australia’s hybrid SUV scene was dominated by the usual efficiency champs and a few new faces. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Kluger Hybrid were the headliners for family duty, with the Yaris Cross Hybrid and (late in the year) Corolla Cross Hybrid covering the smaller end. Subaru’s Forester Hybrid added all-wheel traction with modest economy gains, while Haval’s H6 Hybrid and Lexus NX 350h broadened the choices. Expect fuel use roughly in the mid‑4s to low‑6s L/100 km depending on size and driving, with the usual hybrid party tricks: quiet take‑offs, fewer servo stops, and smugness at the lights. If you’re shopping that year, focus on battery warranty length, real-world economy, and wait times—which, back then, were sometimes longer than a Test match.
