hyundai ix35 common problems

The Hyundai ix35 is generally a dependable runabout, but it has a few party tricks you’ll want to know about. Most issues are fixable and cheaper if caught early.

  • Steering knock from the MDPS coupler (rubber bush) – common and inexpensive to fix
  • Diesel DPF clogging on short-trip driving; may need forced regen or thorough highway run
  • Suspension bush/strut-top wear causing clunks over bumps
  • Air-con woes (evaporator/compressor) leading to weak cooling
  • Auto hesitation or harsh shifts; fresh fluid and software updates can help
  • Tailgate struts and door lock actuators getting lazy
  • Minor oil seeps (rocker cover) and occasional coil-pack misfires on older petrols

Get a pre-purchase inspection, check for recall/compliance work, and favour cars with complete service histories. If it drives straight, steers quiet, and the DPF light stays off on a long test-drive, you’ve likely found a good one.
