hyundai kona 2018 problems Page 9

The 2018 Kona was Hyundai’s funky first stab at the segment, and most are solid daily operators—though a few quirks made it into the final cut. The 1.6T’s dual‑clutch can be fussy in traffic, and there were recalls you’ll want ticked off. Tech toys sometimes behave like, well, toys. Here’s what to eyeball before you get starry‑eyed over the lime green paint.

• 1.6T DCT hesitation/shudder or heat warnings in stop‑start use; software updates help, smooth driving helps more.
• Recalls: ABS control unit short‑circuit risk and others—confirm they’re all completed.
• Driver‑assist jitters: AEB/LKA false alarms or sensitivity gripes; calibration updates available.
• NVH and hardware niggles: suspension clunks, tyre roar, wind noise, and occasional trim rattles.
• Infotainment quirks: CarPlay/Android Auto dropouts or Bluetooth blues; check on your phone during a long test drive.
• 2.0 MPI rough idle or stumble from coils/throttle-body grime; usually minor and serviceable.

Buy on condition and paperwork—updates done, services stamped, and a clean test drive in hot traffic. Do that, and the Kona’s cheeriness won’t wear off after the first school run.
