hyundai santa fe engine replacement cost Page 9

Replacing a Hyundai Santa Fe engine isn’t pocket change; it’s an “are we sitting down?” moment. A used or reconditioned long motor typically runs about $3,500–$8,500, while a brand‑new/crate or genuine long block can be $8,000–$14,000. Labour is the silent assassin: allow 12–20 hours at local rates, so roughly $1,800–$3,500, plus gaskets, fluids, mounts and incidentals ($500–$2,000). All‑in, most jobs land somewhere between $6,000 and $18,000 in Australia, with 2.2 CRDi diesels often at the upper end. Ask for a written quote with compression/leak‑down results, and compare warranties (used/reco usually shorter; new/genuine longer). While you’re there, get the cooling system and ancillary bits checked—no point slapping a fresh heart into a car with a dodgy pacemaker.
