indy car gold coast Page 568

Hunting “Indy Car Gold Coast”? Here’s the plot twist: the famous Surfers Paradise street race ran from 1991 to 2008 under CART/Champ Car, then bowed out.

After the 2008 merger the IndyCar comeback fizzled—A1GP was meant to fill 2009, promptly collapsed—and the open-wheel circus never returned.

The circuit still roars each spring, but it’s a Supercars weekend now (the Gold Coast 500) with the usual support card and sunburn.

So no IndyCar on the Coast today; if you want that, pack a passport and chase the series overseas.
