instant tax write-off 2024 Page 8

For 2024, the instant asset write‑off lets eligible small businesses (aggregated turnover under AUD $10m) immediately deduct assets costing AUD $20,000 per asset. It applies to new or second‑hand assets first used or installed ready for use between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024, with an extension announced for 2024–25 on similar terms. Go over the threshold and it’s generally not instant—depreciation rules (often the small‑business pool) take over. Passenger vehicles still hit the ATO car limit cap, so no, the luxo-barge won’t vanish your tax bill in one gulp. Keep proper records and make sure the asset is actually working by 30 June. This is general info—talk to your accountant or the ATO before you start claiming the office coffee machine as a “mobile morale device.”
