In Queensland, you can insure a repaired write-off—but only after it’s legally back on the road; a statutory write-off won’t be re-registered, so that’s game over. To re-register a repairable one you’ll need a Written-Off Vehicle Inspection (WOVI) with TMR, a QLD Safety Certificate (roadworthy), proof of ownership and repair receipts, then registration (with CTP attached) before any insurer will talk nice. Comprehensive cover is at the insurer’s mercy: some decline, others load the premium and excess, and market value will be marked down thanks to that colourful history. Disclose everything, expect photos/inspections, and keep a neat paper trail of parts and repairs. Specialist insurers may consider it, often with conditions and higher excesses. Call around first and get decisions in writing—saves you the joy of doing laps between the workshop, TMR, and a very unimpressed underwriter.
