is it illegal to drink water while driving in queensland Page 4

Short answer: no, there isn’t a specific Queensland law that flatly bans sipping water behind the wheel — you won’t be carted off for hydration alone.

Longer answer: however, if drinking causes you to take your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel or results in erratic driving, police can still charge you with careless or dangerous driving, which carries fines and demerit points.

So yes, the act itself isn’t criminalised, but the consequences of doing it badly are; courts like to punish poor judgement rather than parched throats.

If you want to stay out of trouble, use a bottle holder, take small sips with one hand, or pull over — and if you want the final, up-to-date word, check the Queensland Government or police websites.

Drink responsibly: both the water and your driving.
