ISOFIX in Australia is delightfully simple: use an AS/NZS 1754–approved seat and click its lower connectors into the car’s ISOFIX anchors, then attach the top tether — which is mandatory here.
Don’t double up with the seatbelt and ISOFIX at the same time unless the seat’s manual explicitly allows it (most don’t), and only use designated seating positions with both lower anchors and a tether point.
Set the recline/height markers correctly, tighten until there’s minimal side-to-side movement at the belt path, and keep the harness snug — we’re talking firm handshake, not wrestling hold.
If you’re not confident, book a fitting with an accredited restraint installer via your motoring club (NRMA, RACQ, RACV, RAA, etc.) or state road authority; they’ll eyeball the lot in five minutes and save you a week of second-guessing.
And yes, rear-facing for as long as they fit is the gold standard; the laws set minimums, not maximums. Read the car and seat manuals like they’re sacred texts, then go for a test wobble.
