jeep grand cherokee diesel problems australia Page 5

The diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2 era) in Australia can be tough as a gumboot, but it’s not invincible. If you’re shopping one on Tradingpost or elsewhere, keep these usual suspects in mind:

• EGR cooler recall/fire risk: Certain 3.0L diesels (roughly mid-2010s) were recalled; ensure the EGR cooler upgrade and software fixes have been done.
• DPF and EGR clogging: Lots of short, urban trips can trigger regens, soot build-up, and limp-home tantrums—diesels prefer long, hot runs.
• Quadra-Lift air suspension: Leaky lines, tired compressors, or height sensors can cause sagging corners and warning lights—not cheap if neglected.
• Electrical gremlins: Weak batteries/earths can upset Uconnect, cameras, and 4WD system sensors; many “mysteries” vanish after proper diagnostics and a healthy battery.

Buy on condition: full service history (quality oil, timely filters), evidence of completed recalls with Stellantis Australia, and a pre-purchase inspection. Look after one and it’ll tow like a champ; ignore the warnings and it’ll sulk like a teenager in peak hour.
