kia rio vs mg3 Page 8

Two cheap-and-cheerful hatchbacks, but they play different tunes.

The Kia Rio (last sold new here in 2023) feels more sorted to drive, with better cabin quality and a stronger safety story for its generation.

• Rio pros: Refined ride, decent infotainment, larger boot, and broader engine choices including a punchy 1.0T in GT-Line.
• Rio cons: Higher price when new, and now discontinued—so it’s a used-market hunt.

The MG3 keeps the budget grins coming, trading polish for simple specs and keen pricing.

• MG3 pros: Wallet-friendly, easy to park, cheap to run, big on basic space.
• MG3 cons: Older tech, 4-speed auto, and the outgoing model lacked modern safety aids like AEB and wasn’t ANCAP-rated under current protocols.

Match the car to your priorities: more refinement and safety gear points you toward the Rio; the tightest budgets make the MG3 tempting—then compare deals and condition carefully.
