A cat can share your home for fifteen years or more, so there is no reward for rushing. Ask the seller about vaccination, worming, microchipping and desexing, whether the kitten is old enough to leave its mother, and how it has been raised around people. Ask for the microchip number and breeder details where the seller has them, and arrange to meet the kitten with its mother or in the home it has grown up in.

Popular breeds to look through: Manx, Ragdoll, Abyssinian, Oriental, Russian and Munchkin. Coat length, energy and how vocal a breed tends to be all differ far more than the photos suggest, so ask the seller how much grooming the coat needs and how the cat behaves around children and other pets. A crossbred cat can be every bit as good a match as a pedigree one.
