LDV began in the UK as Leyland DAF Vans and, after a corporate shuffle in the 1990s, spent years turning out honest, boxy workhorses like the Convoy before the sleeker Maxus arrived.

The GFC kneecapped the business in 2009, the factory went quiet, and China’s SAIC Motor scooped up the Maxus designs and the bits that mattered.

Since then the badge has lived on—called Maxus in many markets, but sold as LDV in Australia via Ateco—with a modern lineup of vans and utes (Deliver 9, G10/MIFA, T60) that bear little resemblance to the old British clankers.

So yes, LDV went from Birmingham grit to Shanghai scale, swapping tea breaks for throughput—hence your tradie van now comes with a surprisingly techy spec sheet.
