Getting a learners permit in Queensland is less gladiator arena, more paperwork and patience.
Be at least 16, complete PrepL (or pass the written road rules test), and front up to TMR with ID and a small donation to the bureaucracy gods—also known as the licence fee.
Once you’ve got the Ls, slap on the L plates, drive only with a supervising driver on an open licence, and if you’re under 25, log 100 hours including 10 at night and hold the permit for at least 12 months.
Before the practical test you’ll need to pass Queensland’s online Hazard Perception Test, then it’s on to your P plates and the brave new world of solo driving.
Over 25? You generally don’t need the logbook hours, but the tests and good manners on the road still apply.
Check Queensland Government (TMR) for the fine print and any changes, because rules move faster than a mum spotting an L-plater near her letterbox.
