leaving dog in car victoria Page 4

In Victoria, leaving a dog in a parked car isn’t “just a minute”—it’s an offence under animal welfare laws if the animal’s health is at risk.

Cabin temperatures can rocket from a pleasant 22°C to 40–50°C in minutes, even with the windows cracked, which is less “airflow” and more “fan‑forced oven”.

Expect fines and potential prosecution, and yes, police or animal welfare officers can break a window to rescue the dog.

If you must stop, take the dog with you or skip the errand—no burger is worth heatstroke.

If you see a distressed dog in a hot car, call 000 for an emergency or contact RSPCA Victoria.
