“Light vehicle platforms” are the shared underpinnings—chassis, mounting points, electronics—used to build multiple cars without reinventing the spanner every Tuesday.

This modular approach gives better rigidity, improved safety, and cheaper parts, while letting brands spin a hatch, a small SUV, and a ute out of the same Lego set. It also future-proofs for hybrid and EV options, so they can bolt in batteries without redesigning the whole circus. You’ll hear names like TNGA (Toyota), MQB (Volkswagen), and CMF (Renault–Nissan); different badges, same skeleton idea. For Aussie buyers, it usually means familiar servicing, broader parts availability, and fewer “sorry, that widget’s on a slow boat” moments. Downsides? Some models feel a bit samey, but if it keeps prices sane and panels aligned, we’ll call it a win.
