luxury car tax threshold 23-24 Page 4

Wondering where the Luxury Car Tax line sits for 2023–24? For most vehicles the threshold is AUD $76,950, while fuel‑efficient cars (≤7.0 L/100 km) get a higher threshold of AUD $89,332.

Above those thresholds, the LCT rate is 33% on the GST‑inclusive value over the line—yes, it’s a tax on being a bit flash.

It applies to new cars sold or imported in Australia (and some dealer‑sold used imports), with carve‑outs for genuine commercial vehicles.

Watch options and delivery charges; they love tipping cars over the threshold like a dodgy scales operator.

Consult official documentation for exact figures.
