luxury car tax vic Page 3382

Luxury Car Tax in Victoria isn’t a quirky state sting; it’s a federal tax that applies when a car’s value exceeds the ATO’s yearly thresholds. It’s charged at 33% on the portion above the threshold, with a higher threshold for fuel‑efficient cars, and dealers/importers usually roll it into the drive‑away price. Private buyers generally won’t cop LCT on used cars older than two years, but Victoria’s stamp duty still turns up to the party and scales with price. Thresholds update every 1 July, so check the latest ATO figures before you start speccing quilted leather for the dog.
