luxury car threshold 2023 Page 17

In Australia, the “luxury car threshold” for 2023 depends on the financial year and how frugal the car is.

For FY2023–24 the limits are $89,332 for fuel‑efficient cars (≤7.0 L/100 km) and $76,950 for other cars; for FY2022–23 they were $84,916 and $71,849 respectively.

Luxury Car Tax is 33%, applied only to the GST‑inclusive value above the relevant threshold—tick too many shiny options and the ATO starts doing push‑ups.

It’s separate to stamp duty, rego and other on‑roads, and genuine commercial utes typically dodge LCT.

If you’re on the cusp, double‑check the latest ATO figures before signing, because thresholds and definitions can shift like sand on Ninety Mile Beach.
