make your own number plate Page 2

Yes, you can make your own number plate—just not with crayons and sticky tape.

Jump onto your state’s road authority (VIC, NSW, QLD, SA, WA, etc.), choose a style, check your combo’s availability, and order it online; they’ll make it and post or notify for pickup.

Expect setup fees from about $150–$600 for basic personalised plates and higher for premium designs, plus an annual fee in many states (~$100–$500).

Keep it G‑rated (no rude words), make sure the characters meet the format rules, and update your insurer once they’re fitted.

Plates must remain legible and legal; if in doubt, your state authority’s rules trump your inner artist.
