max step height australia Page 43

Ah, the thrilling world of step heights down under! In Australia, the maximum permitted step height for stairs in most residential and commercial buildings is generally 190 mm (about 7.5 inches). This is governed by the National Construction Code (NCC), which aims to keep your tripping hazards at bay while still allowing you a decent stride. The minimum tread depth usually sits at 250 mm. If you’re designing or renovating, it’s wise to double-check the NCC or talk to a local building certifier because standards can vary depending on the building type.

For the nitty-gritty and official specs, consult the NCC directly or ServiceCentral for professional advice.
