mazda 2 2010 problems Page 9

The 2010 Mazda 2 (DE) is generally a tough little nugget, but a decade-plus of Aussie commutes can expose a few gremlins.

• Worn engine mounts causing vibration at idle.
• Leaking rear shocks and tired suspension bushes leading to clunks.
• Air‑con compressor/clutch wear and weak cooling on hot days.
• Electric window regulators and door‑lock actuators failing intermittently.
• Timing chain rattle on poorly serviced cars; fresh oil and a new tensioner usually cure it.
• Surface rust around the hatch/door edges on coastal cars—check drains and seals.
• Takata airbag recalls apply to some cars; verify the VIN history.

Service it on time, use decent fluids, and the 1.5 will happily buzz along; neglect it, and the squeaks stage a coup. Always get a pre‑purchase inspection and a clear recall printout.
