mazda 3 mps reliability Page 154

The Mazda 3 MPS (2006–2013) is generally stout—so long as your right foot isn’t writing cheques the hardware can’t cash.

The 2.3‑litre turbo is tough, but age and mods expose weak points; buy on condition and service history, not just shiny intercooler pipes.

Common trouble spots to check:

  • Turbo smoke at idle/overrun from tired seals or PCV issues.
  • Rear engine mount wear causing vibration and wheel hop.
  • Carbon build‑up on intake valves (direct injection life).
  • Clutch and 2nd‑gear synchro wear on hard‑driven cars.
  • HPFP pressure fade on tuned cars—many fit upgraded internals.

Keep fresh oil in it, run quality 98 RON, and it’ll rack up big kays without drama; abuse it and you’ll meet your local gearbox specialist.
