mazda cx 8 2023 review

The 2023 Mazda CX-8 is the Goldilocks of Mazda’s SUV family—seven seats without the barge feel, and tidy enough for tight Aussie carparks.

The updated cabin brings a bigger, sharper infotainment setup with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, nicer materials, and controls that won’t require a PhD.

The 2.5‑litre petrol is fine for suburbs and school runs; the 2.2‑litre turbo‑diesel feels stronger, tows more confidently, and sips less on the highway.

Ride comfort is plush, steering is tidy, and road noise is well managed—sporty enough to keep you awake, comfy enough for the Brisbane–Byron slog.

The third row is for kids or very forgiving adults, and boot space shrinks with all seats up, but as a family all‑rounder it’s a sweet spot.

Safety tech is generous and ownership costs are reasonable, though the old-school 6‑speed auto won’t wow spec-sheet tragics.
