mercedes e250 cgi 2010 problems

Shopping a 2010 Mercedes-Benz E250 CGI and want the gremlins named and shamed? It’s a lovely cruiser when pampered, but the 1.8 DI turbo and the electrics have a few party tricks.

  • Timing chain/sprocket wear and cam adjuster rattle on cold start; may trigger warning lights.
  • High-pressure fuel pump/injector hiccups causing misfires, rough idle or hard starts.
  • Carbon build-up on intake valves (direct injection) needing walnut blasting to restore smoothness.
  • Oil leaks from cam/rocker cover and cam magnet seals, sometimes wicking into wiring.
  • Cooling bits (thermostat/water pump) giving up, leading to temperature tantrums.
  • Auto transmission valve body/conductor plate faults causing harsh shifts or limp mode.
  • Front-end bushes/ball joints wearing early; knocks and chewed tyres.
  • Electronics: steering lock module dramas, COMAND quirks, and battery/alternator sensitivity.

Get a pre-purchase inspection with a cold start and scan report, and budget for timing gear and fluids if history is vague. Look after it and it’ll munch kilometres with aristocratic boredom.
