million km toyota hilux Page 4

Yes, a Toyota HiLux can hit a million kilometres — plenty in Australia have, usually with a patient right foot and a fanatical service log.

The recipe is boring but effective: frequent oil and filter changes, quality fuel, cooling system vigilance, and driveline fluids on schedule.

At moon-mileage, expect wear items rather than melodrama; the big killers are neglect and heat.

• Injectors and pumps on older common-rail diesels need testing/replacement before they snowball into engine damage.
• DPF/EGR buildup on newer diesels if it only does short trips — give it regular highway runs.
• Suspension bushes, wheel bearings and steering racks get tired after years of corrugations.
• Rust in tray, chassis rails and cab mounts if it’s seen beaches or mine sites — salt and red dust don’t miss.

Do the maintenance, be sensible when towing or loaded, and a HiLux will likely outlast your enthusiasm for keeping every receipt.
