mitsubishi pajero 2007 problems Page 2

The 2007 Mitsubishi Pajero (NS) is a tough tourer, but time and kilometres will shake a few gremlins out of the bushes.

Common issues owners in Australia report include:

• EGR and intake carbon build-up on the 3.2 Di‑D, causing rough idle or smoke; periodic cleaning and decent highway runs help.
• Split intercooler/turbo hoses or boost leaks leading to limp mode; usually an inexpensive fix.
• 4WD lights flashing from freewheel clutch solenoid or vacuum line faults; annoying, but typically simple to diagnose.
• Worn suspension bushes (front lower control arms, sway-bar links) causing clunks and uneven tyre wear.
• Auto transmission shudder from old fluid; servicing on time keeps it civil.
• Ageing cooling components (radiator tanks, viscous fan) that can tip it into overheating under load if neglected.
• Takata airbag recall and other campaigns—check the VIN and ensure they’re completed.

The diesel 3.2 uses a timing chain, while the 3.8 petrol runs a belt—so stick to the service schedule unless you like suspense. Get a pre-purchase inspection and a scan for codes, then enjoy the big-mile adventure wagon it was built to be.
