mobile device detection cameras Page 258

In Australia, mobile device detection cameras are the road-rule hall monitors you can’t sweet-talk: they spot drivers using a handheld phone.

They use high-resolution and infrared imaging with AI to flag likely offences, and a human reviewer double-checks before a fine is issued.

Units can be fixed or vehicle-based, run day and night and in ordinary rain, and they’re positioned on busy corridors rather than announced like a pop concert tour.

They target handheld use; properly mounted navigation and genuine hands-free calls are generally legal, but each state’s rules and penalties differ and change.

Expect fines and demerit points if you’re caught, with amounts set by your state or territory.

Short version: stash the phone, keep your eyes up, and let the cameras be bored for once.
