most reliable second-hand suv Page 26

Hunting for the most reliable second-hand SUV in Australia? The usual cockroaches-that-survive-anything list includes the Toyota RAV4, Kluger and Prado, plus the Lexus RX/NX if you fancy leather and quiet smugness. Solid bets also: Mazda CX‑5 (2.0/2.5 petrol), Honda CR‑V (2.4 petrol) and Subaru Forester (non‑turbo), all known for dependable running if serviced on time. Skip neglected turbo‑diesels unless there’s a watertight history—DPFs and short-trip lives don’t mix. Buy on condition and paperwork: full service history, cold-start check, no shudder under acceleration, and fresh fluids beat shiny paint every day. Get a pre‑purchase inspection; it’s cheaper than inheriting someone else’s squeaks and warning lights. Simple recipe: mainstream brand, naturally aspirated petrol, one owner, low km—boring on paper, brilliant for wallets.
