The MV Agusta 125 TR (Turismo Rapido) was an extremely popular model produced from 1954 to 1958, with approximately 40,000 units being sold. Depending on year of production, the 125 TR varied in price from 180,000 to 200,000 Lire.

The 1954 model is easily identifiable by the fully tubular frame at the rear. This feature was soon abandoned after first production in favour of the less expensive pressed-metal box section, which also reduced assembly time. The bike majority of those produced had their frames painted black with a red fuel tank, although a small number were painted entirely red, like this example.

A major advantage to the bike’s popularity was the 4-Stroke engine. The overwhelming majority of manufactures at the time produced 2-Strokes, where as the buying public saw the 4-Stroke as having higher status, not to mention much easier with no requirement of pre-mixing fuel. The TR’s 125cc single cylinder engine produced 6.5HP at 6,000 rpm and had a top speed of 90 km/h. Sporting a rather large 12 litre fuel tank, the TR’s consumption rate of 2 litres per 100km allowed owners the joy of far longer trips between fuel stops.
