In NSW, “rego” is vehicle registration—the golden ticket that keeps your plates legal and the fines at bay.
To renew, you’ll need a current CTP Green Slip, an eSafety (pink slip) inspection if your car is over five years old, and payment for the registration and motor vehicle tax.
You can check your status and renewal date via Service NSW’s Rego Check, then pay online faster than you can find the good socket.
Transferring ownership? Budget for stamp duty and a transfer fee, and make sure the Green Slip matches the new owner.
If your rego lapses, you can’t legally drive it (not even “just to the shops”), and plates may need to be surrendered after a grace period.
Heavy vehicles, trailers, or defect notices follow extra rules—Service NSW has the playbook, so don’t wing it.
