NIO’s so-called “solid-state” pack is actually a 150 kWh semi-solid-state battery—clever chemistry, not full ceramic sci‑fi.
It targets about 360 Wh/kg energy density and, in CLTC testing, claims up to roughly 1,000 km in sedans like the ET7; real-world highway range will be much lower.
The pack fits NIO’s swap stations and can be subscribed to rather than bought outright, which helps because it’s priced like a designer handbag for electrons.
Availability is mainly in China for now, with wider rollouts still fuzzy, but it’s a genuine step beyond conventional lithium-ion.
In short: impressive on paper, promising in practice, and very much tied to NIO’s ecosystem until further notice.
