nissan x trail 2004 problems Page 28

The 2004 Nissan X‑Trail (T30) is a hardy thing, but two decades on there are a few gremlins worth checking before you hand over the cash.

  • QR25DE 2.5 petrol: pre‑cat breakdown can be ingested, causing bore scoring, rising oil use, and loss of compression.
  • Mass‑air‑flow sensor and dirty throttle body: rough idle, stalling, flat spots; cheap to diagnose, often fixable.
  • Crank/cam angle sensors and ignition coils: intermittent no‑start, surging, or random cut‑outs.
  • YD22 diesel: turbo wear, EGR clogging, and split intercooler hoses leading to limp mode and smoke.
  • Driveline and hardware: worn viscous coupling/transfer case, noisy wheel bearings, and tired clutches on manuals.

A pre‑purchase inspection and compression test on the 2.5 are smart moves; buy on service history, not odometer boasts.
