NSW’s mobile phone detection cameras are the unblinking nannies of the motorway, using high‑resolution imaging and machine learning to spot a handset in your hand.

Every detection is reviewed by a trained operator before a fine and demerit points are issued, and they can nab you while moving or stopped at traffic lights, but not when properly parked out of traffic.

Full licence holders may use hands‑free with the phone properly mounted; P1 and P2 drivers aren’t permitted to use a phone at all.

There are fixed and portable units operating across the state, and double‑demerit periods make the sting even sharper.
