nsw international drivers licence new rules Page 2

So, you want the latest scoop on New South Wales' international driver's licence rules? Buckle up. NSW has tweaked the rules to align with international conventions—meaning you can use your overseas licence for a limited time, usually up to 3 months, before you need to convert it or get a local licence. The International Driving Permit (IDP) is still your golden ticket for translating that foreign licence into Aussie road gibberish. Note that the exact rules can vary depending on your country of origin and licence type.

Key points:

• IDP must be carried alongside your valid overseas licence.
• Some countries’ licences need to be translated or accompanied by an IDP.
• After 3 months, you’re expected to get an Australian licence if you’re residing in NSW.
