Short answer: the NSW stamp duty exemption for electric vehicles has ended. From 1 January 2024, new purchases of EVs in NSW no longer receive a stamp duty waiver (the rebate ended then too). Previously, eligible battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles with a dutiable value under $78,000 qualified; plug-in hybrids didn’t. If you signed a contract before the cutoff, you may still be covered under transition rules—check your paperwork and Service NSW receipts. In practical terms, budget for normal stamp duty like any other car, because the free ride has well and truly left the paddock.
