The NX Pajero (2015–2021) is as tough as a two-dollar steak, but a few gremlins still slip through.

• EGR and intake manifold carbon build-up causing rough idle, smoke and a noticeable loss of oomph on hills.
• Air-conditioning woes: evaporator core leaks and corroded rear A/C lines that let the gas escape faster than your patience.
• Crank pulley/harmonic balancer deterioration leading to belt squeal, wobble or thrown belts.
• Automatic transmission shudder or harsh shifts if the fluid’s old or the wrong spec; fresh, correct fluid and filters usually restore manners.
• Front suspension bushes and sway-bar links wearing out, giving clunks and feathered tyres.
• Intercooler/boost hoses splitting with age—oil mist around joints is the tell-tale.
• ABS/wheel-speed sensor niggles after mud or water crossings.

Most of these are age-and-use issues, not design disasters; regular servicing with the correct fluids and a careful inspection usually keeps it cheerful. The 3.2‑litre diesel uses a timing chain (not a belt) and is generally stout, so buy on condition and service history, not just odometer bravado. If a test drive reveals shudders, squeals or a lazy A/C, budget for fixes rather than hoping for miracles.
