odometer tampering nsw Page 6

In NSW, winding back an odometer is illegal—no cheeky spins of the numbers, just fines and potential prosecution courtesy of NSW Fair Trading.

If a car’s mileage looks magically youthful, assume it isn’t and prove you’re right: verify against service records, rego/inspection history, and any dealer invoices.

Cross-check wear-and-tear (pedals, wheel, seats), run a PPSR and a paid history report, and get a trusted mechanic to scan for stored mileage on modules.

If you smell dodginess, walk away and report it to NSW Fair Trading or Police; there are plenty of honest cars that don’t lie about their age.
