Stamp duty is roughly 3% up to $45,000, then 5% on the value above that. Add registration, CTP green slip and plates—typically $1,000–$1,500 depending on weight, postcode and insurer—plus any dealer delivery ($1,000–$2,500 on many new cars). Example: a $40,000 car means about $1,200 in duty, around $1,000–$1,500 for rego/CTP/plates, so roughly $2,200–$2,700 before dealer delivery. At $60,000, duty is about $2,100 (that’s $1,350 + 5% of the $15k over $45k), then similar rego/CTP/plates, making ~$3,100–$3,600 before dealer delivery. Figures change and exemptions crop up, so treat this as a back-of-the-ute estimate and confirm with official tools before you sign anything.
